Office Phone Number:

Chris Axelsson is undertaking a PhD in Geospatial Science and Engineering (since Spring 2013) with Dr. Niall Hanan as his advisor. His research interests include ecological modeling with special focus on savanna and dryland systems, remote sensing of vegetation, and analyzing the drivers of ecosystem change. His PhD project involves analyzing and modeling vegetation patterns in Africa. The research aims to examine how soil, climate, hydrology, fire, and herbivory interact to shape the structure and patterning of woody and herbaceous vegetation.

Chris obtained an MSc in Geo-information Science and Earth Observation for Environmental Modelling and Management (GEM) in 2011. The MSc program was a collaboration between EU universities in Netherlands, Sweden, Poland, and UK. The MSc project involved hyperspectral remote sensing of the biochemical contents of mangrove leaves. Before that he worked with GIS and spatial databases in Sweden.
