Education: 

J. Senthilnath received the Bachelor of Engineering and the Master of Technology in the Department of Computer Science from Visvesvaraya Technological University and the Ph.D. degree in the Department of Aerospace Engineering from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. Prior to joining as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Geospatial Sciences Center of Excellence, South Dakota State University, USA, He was a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Aerospace Engineering from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India.

Currently, his Postdoctoral research is funded by a NASA Space and Earth Sciences 2013 (ROSES2013 A.29) for proposal titled "Development and Validation of a Global Land Surface Phenology Product from NPP VIIRS for EOS-MODIS Continuity" (Advisor: Dr. Xiaoyang Zhang). The primary duties will be to conduct research in the areas of global land surface phenology. These duties will include gathering, processing and analyzing satellite data and also developing mathematical model and computing codes. His Ph.D research was funded by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India and supported by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) 2009 (ISTC209) for sponsored project titled “Flood Assessment using Satellite Images” (Advisors: Dr. S.N. Omkar, Prof. V. Mani and Dr. P.G. Diwakar). This research aimed to design an automatic systems dedicated to satellite image processing which involves change detection to discriminate areas of land cover change between imaging dates. The system integrates the spectral and spatial information with the techniques of image registration and pattern classification using nature inspired techniques. In this study, nature inspired optimization techniques are used to find solutions to problems of image registration and pattern classification of a multi-sensor and multi-temporal satellite image. Results are used to localize and estimate accurately the flood extent and also to identify the type of the inundated area based on land cover mapping.
