Confiance is an Agricultural Engineer, with a specialization in Natural Resources Management from the University of Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of Congo). He is currently working on a NASA/CARPE-funded Graduate Research Assistantship at the GIScCE as a Master’s student.
He came initially to the GIScCE as a Visiting Scientist in the summer of 2010, working on dry tropical forest cover mapping prior to his admission as a graduate student at SDSU.
Confiance worked for the Congolese NGO OSFAC (Observatoire Satellital des Forêts d'Afrique Centrale), and later for the European Union funded OFAC (Observatoire des Forêts d'Afrique Centrale) project as a GIS Developer. His work included the use of both South Dakota State University and the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium forest mapping products.
Dr. Matthew Hansen is his advisor on the topic of land cover monitoring of Central Africa using MODIS and LANDSAT data.
