Eric Ariel Salas completed his bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering at the University of San Carlos - Technological Center (USC-TC) in Cebu, Philippines and his master's degree in Geo-Information at Wageningen University and Research (WUR), The Netherlands. His previous research was on the study of heavy metal contamination using vegetation red-edge index in spectroscopic data.
Before joining SDSU, he served as an Assistant Professor at the Civil Engineering Department in USC-TC, teaching Mathematics, Geotechnics, Surveying, Planning and Transportation subjects, including GIS and Remote Sensing, to undergraduate and graduate students. He had a short stint in law school and needed only a final dissertation defense to earn the degree of Doctor of Public Administration in Cebu.
Building on his interest in spectroscopy, he worked on a NASA-funded project with Dr. Geoffrey Henebry for his PhD in Geospatial Science and Engineering.
