Before joining SDSU, Eric served as an Assistant Professor at the Civil Engineering Department in USC-TC, teaching Mathematics, Geotechnics, Surveying, Planning and Transportation subjects, including GIS and Remote Sensing, to undergraduate and graduate students. He had a short stint in law school and needed only a final dissertation defense to earn the degree of Doctor of Public Administration in Cebu.

Eric's previous research was on the study of heavy metal contamination using vegetation red-edge index in spectroscopic data. Building on his interest in spectroscopy, he worked on a NASA-funded project with Dr. Geoffrey Henebry for his PhD in Geospatial Science and Engineering.
