59th Annual Eastern SD Science and Engineering Fair winners selected by GISCE

On Tuesday March 12th, 2013, South Dakota State University hosted the 59th annual Eastern South Dakota Science and Engineering fair.  Each year GIScCE sponsors an award for the most creative project in GIS or environmental science.  This year’s winners were Jeffrey Jeltema and Tanner Vanwhye for their projects titled “7 Billion Strong: Population vs. Climate”.  Jeffery and Tanner, from  Unity Christian High School in Orange City, Iowa were competing in the senior division of the Earth and Planetary Science and Weather and Environmental Science section.  Their faculty advisor was Timothy Kamp, also of Unity Christian High School. Jeffrey, Tanner and Mr. Kamp were awarded Oxford World Atlases.

GIS Center Scholar recognized by Honors College

Congratulations to Cole Krehbiel, an undergraduate GIS Center Scholar working with Dr. Geoff Henebry, who was recognized at the SDSU Honors College Convocation on February 27 with an award for Research Excellence.

Cole is majoring in Geography and Spanish. His research at the GIScCE involves the use of the 4-micron channel on NASA’s MODIS instruments for urban monitoring. Cole will be presenting this work at the Joint Urban Remote Sensing Event (JURSE 2013) in Säo Paulo, Brazil in late April.
