An Early Warning System System for Human West Nile Virus Disease

Dr. Mike Wimberly, along with co-investigator Dr. Mike Hildreth from the SDSU Department of Biology & Microbiology, was awarded a three-year grant from the NASA Applied Science Public Health and Air Quality Program. The main goal of this project is to develop an informatics system for integrating mosquito surveillance with epidemiological surveillance and environmental monitoring data and use it to generate seasonal and weekly forecasts of West Nile virus transmission risk in South Dakota along with a map of persistent transmission hotspots within the state.
