Monitoring and Projecting Environmental Change in Fragmented Tropical Forest Landscapes

Dr. Mike Wimberly, along with co-investigator Dr. Mark Cochrane, was awarded a three-year grant from the NASA Applied Sciences Program to serve as a member of the SERVIR Applied Sciences Team. The primary aims of this project are to develop and test new methods for detecting and mapping gradual degradation of West African tropical forests resulting from logging and fire, to project future trends of forest degradation resulting from population growth and climate change, and to conduct capacity building to transfer related knowledge and tools to natural resource organizations in Ghana.
