NASA Grant to Develop and Validate a Global Land Surface Phenology Product from NPP VIIRS

Xiaoyang Zhang and Geoffrey M. Henebry in collaboration with their colleague in Boston University (Mark A. Friedl) have been awarded a NASA grant titled “Development and Validation of a Global Land Surface Phenology Product from NPP VIIRS for EOS-MODIS Continuity” starting fall 2014. This project is to develop and implement a high quality land surface phenology product from Suomi NPP VIIRS data. The global product will have a spatial resolution of 375 m and 0.05 degrees to have continuity with MODIS land cover dynamics product (phenology) and AVHRR phenology, respectively. It will provide high quality and well characterized land surface phenology data sets for use in numerical weather prediction, carbon monitoring, agricultural planning, and disaster management.
