Ph.D. Title: Land Cover Land Use Change and Soil Organic Carbon Under Climate Variability in Sahelian West Africa (1975-2055)

Selected Publications


Amadou M. DIEYE research interests include use of remote sensing and GIS techniques for natural resources monitoring, mapping land use and land cover change, and the relationship between climate change and land cover land use in semi-arid to sub-humid West Africa. He earned a MA in GIS and International development at Clark University (1998) and a Survey Engineering in Earth Sciences in France in 1989.  Amadou was a research scientist for more than ten years at the Centre de Suivi Ecologique (Ecological monitoring Center), Dakar, Senegal. He is currently collaborating with the USGS-EROS Carbon modeling group on USAID funded work in West Africa, and is working towards a Ph.D. in Geospatial Science & Engineering with a focus on the effects of land management and climate change on carbon stocks.

Amadou Dieye has been awarded a
 NASA Earth and Space Science Ph.D. Fellowship (NESSF) starting 2007/2008 for a proposal titled, "Land Cover Land Use Change and Soil Organic Carbon Under Climate Variability in Semi-Arid to Sub-Humid West African Sahel (1975-2050)".  His hypothesis driven research addresses the relationship between land cover land use (LCLU), soil organic carbon, and climate change in the West African Sahel. Case study sites will be investigated using decadal wet and dry season Landsat data, and field and qualitative social surveys. A biogeochemical model will be used to model soil organic carbon under past, present, and future climate and LCLU scenarios
