Selected Publications

Junchang Ju has research interests in land cover characterization using remote sensing data. He received his Ph.D. degree in 2005 from the Department of Geography and Environment at Boston University. His Ph.D. research work was on a multiscale and multigranular land cover characterization framework which adaptively chooses the size of land cover patches and the categorical resolution of the land cover categories simultaneously in characterizing land cover using Landsat ETM+ data. The framework uses statistical maximum likelihood estimation with added penalty to balance the spatial and categorical complexity of the land cover characterization. He received his Master's degree in plant geography from Beijing Normal University and Bachelor's degree in physical geography from Xibei University in China. He worked as a post-doctoral researcher at Boston University for over one year after his Ph.D.

He joined GIScCE  in  August, 2006  as a post-doctoral research associate under Prof. David Roy at SDSU on land cover dynamics research using coarse resolution satellite imagery. Now he is a research assistant professor working exclusively on a project generating seamless Landsat ETM+ data for the conterminous United States (http:/landsat.usgs.gov/WELD.php).
